INDICATIONS: ZITHROMAX is indicated for lower respiratory tract infections including bronchitis and pneumonia, but also in infections of skin and soft tissues. Similarly, is indicated in the upper respiratory tract infections such as sinusitis, pharyngitis and otitis media caused by susceptible microorganisms.
Sexually transmitted infections, ZITHROMAX is indicated in men as in women, in the treatment of uncomplicated infections due to Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Haemophilus ducreyi. Concomitant infection should be excluded by Treponema pallidum.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: The use of this product is contraindicated in patients with a history of allergic reactions to azithromycin or any antibiotic in the macrolide group.
PRECAUTIONS General: Because azithromycin is principally eliminated by the liver, caution should be exercised when administered to patients with hepatic dysfunction.
Similarly, should be administered with caution in patients with renal insufficiency. There are no reported cases of ventricular arrhythmias in patients treated with azithromycin in clinical studies, however, this complication has been observed with other macrolides.
Cases have been reported helical ventricular arrhythmia and myocardial infarction subsequent to the use of azithromycin in post-marketing phase. Azithromycin may mask or delay the onset of symptoms of gonorrhea and syphilis, it is recommended for susceptibility testing before starting treatment.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION: Oral.
Dosage in adults (including elderly): 1 tablet of 500 mg daily for 3 days for respiratory tract infections.
For sexually transmitted infections: 2 tablets of 500 mg as a single dose.
In patients with hepatic impairment should be given the same dose as patients with normal liver function.
Dosage in children: The dose underweight children is 10 mg / kg per day in a single dose for 3 days. In infants weighing 5 to 15 kg, the dose of AZITHROMAX should be measured accurately.
In children weighing 15 to 25 kg: The dose is 200 mg (5.0 ml) once daily for 3 days. In children weighing 26 to 35 kg, the dose is 300 mg (7.5 ml) once daily for 3 days. In children weighing 36 to 45 kg, the dose is 400 mg (10 ml) once daily for 3 days.
For children weighing over 45 kg is administered the same dose as in adults.
